IowaBio Leadership Lens: June 2025

Session Wins & Upcoming Summer Connections

Session wrapped up early in the morning on May 15, after a marathon all-night session. IowaBio worked on its priorities including Economic Development, Pharmaceuticals, Renewable Fuels, and the Bioscience Talent Pipeline. The issues we faced were manifold but our session proved successful despite challenges.

Major notable bills was SF657, a major tax credit overhaul proposed by the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The bill revamped most of the state’s tax credit programs, including the Research Activities Credit--capping and significantly altering one of the programs most utilized by IowaBio’s membership. The bill also created a new SAF production incentive, and a new Seed Investor Tax credit program to replace the Angel Investor Tax Credit Program. IowaBio played a significant role in helping shape the bill language to ensure our members can efficiently utilize the R&D credits.

Other bills IowaBio was able to defeat included detrimental legislation focused on animal research, vaccines, and food ingredients.

Thank you to all of those who helped inform legislators about potential impacts of legislation on their biotech businesses this session!
