The MoU highlights common missions and interests in a thriving biotechnology economy, within Iowa and India, and establishes that the organizations intend to establish a formal long-term collaboration to foster the growth and success of the memberships of ABLE and IowaBio and the biotechnology industries in Iowa and India.
The agreement recognizes areas of common interest including: biomanufacturing, crop technologies, ag tech innovations, One Health (an approach that recognizes that the health of people is closely connected to the health of animals and our shared environment), animal vaccine development and manufacturing, animal nutrition, biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing, human nutrition, food ingredients and food testing, biofuels feedstocks and production, strong trade and ease of legal and regulatory processes, access to venture capital, strong STEM workforce.
The MoU was signed by Jessica Hyland, Executive Director of IowaBio and Mr. G.S. Krishnan, Honorary President of ABLE, with the Honorable Governor of Iowa Kim Reynolds signing as a witness to convey support from the State of Iowa.
The Governor and a delegation of Iowa agricultural and educational leaders returned to India this week for their second mission in just over a year. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig also returned with the group during the week-long trade mission focused on expanding trade and forming new business relationships with India.
“This agreement reflects Iowa’s deep commitment to international collaboration in biotechnology and innovation, and I am honored to witness this exciting partnership,” said Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. “Iowa has earned its reputation as a bioscience epicenter, with world-class capabilities in precision and digital agriculture, biobased chemicals, renewable fuels, medical devices, and vaccines and immunotherapies that improve animal and human health globally. These strengths position Iowa as a natural and strategic partner for countries like India that are advancing their biotech sectors.”
“We are thrilled to sign this agreement with ABLE, as it recognizes areas of common interest between our organizations and our members, and sets us on a strong foundation of long-term collaboration and cooperation,” Hyland said.
"Our focus will be turning this partnership into action with targeted initiatives in biomanufacturing, animal vaccine development, and ag-tech. We are hopeful that India’s dynamic biotech capabilities in R&D, manufacturing, and skilled workforce will enable us to quickly implement joint projects and enhance access to capital - delivering measurable outcomes for our members and industries on both sides,” said Dr. S. Balasubramanya, General Manager of ABLE.
"This MoU with IowaBio is a pivotal step to strengthen collaboration between India and Iowa’s biotechnology sectors. India’s robust biotech ecosystem, known for its innovation in biopharmaceuticals, agri-biotech, and bio-manufacturing, complements Iowa’s strengths perfectly. Together, we will drive innovation, boost trade, and create a global impact by leveraging our shared expertise and resources," said, Mr. G.S. Krishnan, President of ABLE.
