Des Moines, Iowa – June 28, 2022 – MVS is pleased to announce that Gary M. Myles, Ph.D. has joined MVS as Senior Counsel. Gary will bring his significant legal experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, primarily in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device fields.

“We are excited to have Gary join MVS as part of our Chemical and Biotechnology Practice Group. Gary has worked for a number of high-profile law firms,” said Cassie J. Edgar, Chair of the Regulatory Practice Group and Co-Chair of the Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group at MVS. “He has extensive experience representing clients including university and non-profit academic institutions and companies ranging from start-up, mid-cap and large-cap bio/pharma companies in the chemical, life sciences, computational biology, and agricultural biotechnology industries.”

Gary’s areas of technological expertise include molecular and cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, microbiology, virology, plant biology, and organic chemistry. He also formulates freedom-to-operate, non-infringement, and invalidity opinions and performs intellectual property due diligence reviews and assessments in connection with mergers and acquisitions, investment rounds, and initial public offerings.

Gary earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the University North Carolina and a J.D. from the University of Washington. He is an adjunct professor of law at Seattle University, where he teaches Biotechnology and the Law, and is an adjunct professor and Law, Technology, and Arts Fellow at the University of Washington, where he lectures on biotechnology patent law topics to J.D. and L.L.M. students in Advanced Patent Law.
