Jeffrey Weld, PhD, is Executive Director of the Iowa Governor's STEM Advisory Council, the state's STEM education initiative anchored on a foundation of public/private partnership headquartered at the University of Northern Iowa. Previously Jeff held the position of associate professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, preparing future naturalists and science teachers to flourish under high expectations. Jeff was named the 2007 national college biology teacher of the year by the National Association of Biology Teachers. Formerly a decorated high school science teacher on the Texas-Mexico border, in urban St. Louis and in Pella, Iowa, Jeffs passion for STEM literacy has led to more than 50 research articles, essays, book chapters and the popular textbook The Game of Science Education published in 2004. Jeff is former President of the Iowa Science Teachers and of UNIs chapter of Sigma Xi the scientific research society, and serves as an officer and board member for several state and national STEM organizations. Executive Director Weld writes, reads, speaks, leads and collaborates at both the state and national levels in constant pursuit of excellent, equitable STEM education for all.
